Each Inn year the Inn’s members are divided in six “pupillage teams”, with each team consisting of a few members from each membership category: Associates, Barristers and Masters. Each pupillage team conducts one program for the Inn during the Inn Year. Pupillage team members gather informally outside of monthly meetings in groups of two or more. This allows the less-experienced attorneys to become more effective advocates and counselors by learning from the more-experienced attorneys and judges.
Following is a listing of the Team Presentations for the Inn year 2023-2024.

How to Handle Difficult Opposing Counsel
Team Leaders: Frank Tobin and Mark Conover.
Date: October 18, 2018
Learning to effectively navigate the challenges of dealing with difficult opposing counsel can be one of the most important skills needed in the practice of law. Our presentation will discuss what civility and integrity mean in the context of the legal community both in principal and practice. We will then provide real life examples of dealing with difficult opposing counsel and provide a forum to discuss best practices in responding professionally.
The program will include a panel of experts within different legal disciplines (judiciary, criminal, civil, etc.) that will address the various bad experiences that were provided by the Inn members, which discussion will then be opened to the entire Inn. We will address the different dynamics that lawyers may face and provide practical ideas for how to effectively navigate these unique situations.

Institutional Responsibility of Sexual Abuse in Sports at Petco Park with Padres Game
Team Leaders: James Frantz and Antonio Maldonado
Date: May 6, 2019
Universities and other organizations, such as the U.S. Olympic Committee, have at times turned a blind eye towards allegations of sexual abuse. Sometimes some organizations have even covered up the allegations. What is their responsibility, civilly and criminally, in sexual abuse cases? Who else can be held responsible? Would insurance cover this liability? Does insurance ever cover the organization’s directors?
This Team Presentation was followed by admission to a baseball game featuring the San Diego Padres vs. the New York Mets, with private seating in the Pacifico Porch (near Section 122 on Field Level) with buffet style ballpark fare.
